Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World Resort is a 40-square-mile, entertainment and recreation center located 20 miles south-west of Orlando in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. It opened in October of 1971 and is the world's largest (47.00 sq mi) and most visited recreational resort. The year-round sunny weather has made the Walt Disney Theme Parks and the Orlando area one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
Disneyworld was designed similarly to Disneyland (which had opened in Anaheim, California in 1955) but it includes a wider variety of sports and recreation. It features four theme parks, two water parks, 81 holes of golf on five courses, campgrounds, two spas and fitness centers, Disney's Wedding Pavilion, Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, along with themed resort hotels, shopping malls, restaurants and other recreational venues.
The four theme parks are Magic Kingdom, Epcot (1982), Disney’s Hollywood Studios (1989) and Disney’s Animal Kingdom (1998).

Magic Kingdom, which was the first to be built (1971), includes:
1. Main Street, which is inspired by the film ‘Lady and the Tramp’ and is lined with shops selling merchandise and food.
2. Adventureland, which is an exciting exploration of foreign lands including a jungle cruise and an encounter with the Pirates of the Caribbean.
3. Frontierland, which revisits the Wild West, including Indians and cowboys.
4. Liberty Square, based on a town at the time of colonial America and the American Revolution.
5. Fantasyland, which Walt Disney dedicated “to the young at heart and to those who believe that when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true" and features Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Snow White, Cinderella and other famous Disney characters.
6. Tomorrowland is themed to be an intergalactic city. It first opened in 1971 but was completely re-built and altered in 1994.

Epcot is one of the most visited theme parks in the United States. Epcot is an acronym of Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow and was planned by Disney as a utopian city of the future. However, after his death, the plan was not realized. The park is dedicated to international culture and technological innovation. It consists of two sections: Future World and World Showcase. The former consists of a variety of pavilions that explore innovative aspects and applications of technology. The latter contains pavilions representing eleven countries, with their stores, restaurants and sometimes rides and shows.

The theme of Disney's Hollywood Studios is show business. The park is dedicated to Hollywood as “a place where illusion and reality are fused by technological magic”.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is themed entirely around animal conservation. It is “a kingdom of animals… real, ancient and imagined: a kingdom ruled by lions, dinosaurs and dragons; a kingdom of balance, harmony and survival…”.
