 PART 3 – Chapter 1 – O Canada! (p. 179)

O Canada! was declared Canada’s national anthem in 1980, 100 years after it was first sung. The music was composed by Calixa Lavallée, a well-known Canadian composer, to accompany the French lyrics written by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. Many English versions have appeared over the years.

O Canada!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
