Alexis Rockman
Alexis Rockman (1962-) is an American contemporary artist who depicts the precarious relationship between man and nature. His mural Manifest Destiny presents a dystopian vision of the future showing Brooklyn waterfront after catastrophic climate change in 3000 years. To create this futuristic landscape, Alexis Rockman consulted with biologists, zoologists, and paleonthologists. Brooklyn is a vast floodplain from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Brooklyn Museum. Familiar landmarks are submerged, creating a new geology that hosts a variety of aquatic plants and animals.

Alexis Rockman, Manifest Destiny (2003-2004), New York, Brooklyn Museum of Art.
