They are any texts that are used in channels of mass communication such as print, broadcasting, cable, film, and video. Depending on the media, they can use different modes of communication: writing, speech, pictures, sound, etc., or all of these. The shape of media texts is determined to some extent by the technology employed by the particular media.

How a text is being communicated.
They are articles in which the most important information is presented first, with information being less and less significant as the article progresses. News articles are designed to explain the key points first, and then fill them out with detail.
The meaning of a text is not only conveyed by means of words. All texts also contain non verbal signs. This can be the use of certain style features, such as fonts, bold prints, underlying or italics. The meaning of those style features can be different in different texts.
A written or printed statement giving information or direction to the public; a warning or information about something that is going to happen; attention.
They are designed to advance a viewpoint. Here the most important information is contained in the introduction and the summary, with the middle of the article containing supporting arguments.
It is used to order goods. It is often pre-numbered for ease of reference and contains details such as date, name and address of both supplier and customer, exact details of the goods being ordered and agreed price and delivery date.
Rate or speed in walking, running, advance of a plan, etc., usually over a period of time.
Each paragraph deals with one aspect of the subject matter. Paragraphs are linked in a logical way. The conclusion puts the subject matter in the right perspective.

A seller will send a quotation in return to a letter of inquiry. This sets out exactly what the terms of sale will be (including any discounts available), how much delivery and postage might cost, and the estimated completion or delivery time.

It is a term for understanding how the variable elements of the context of situation (what/field, who/tenor, how/mode) affect the form and meaning of a text.
In semantics the division of a sentence into the thing that is talked about (the topic) and what is said about it (the comment). In simple sentences this distinction coincides with the distinction between subject and predicate. Some authors identify this distinction with the distinction between focus and presupposition or theme and rheme.
